LKG to Class 3Reading and speaking English

Help your child read and speak English confidently.

Every day your child reads aloud and answers questions in their own words, while Kiara listens to every word, the way a good English teacher would. She says each line first, so your child hears how it should sound, helps with every word they miss, and teaches them to say it smoothly, with expression and understanding. About ten minutes a day, at home.

Start at any class, LKG to Class 3

Your child begins where they are. A short reading assessment in the first lesson sets their level, so a Class 2 child starts with Class 2 reading, not letter sounds. Class 4 and 5 are coming.

Starting inLKG

Letter sounds, rhymes and first words, said out loud.

Starting inUKG

Blending sounds into words; first short stories.

Starting inClass 1

Short sentences, read smoothly and in phrases.

Starting inClass 2

Longer stories with dialogue, read with expression.

Starting inClass 3

Folk tales from around the world, with word meanings.

Why it helps

English at school. A listener at home.

Reading English well takes the same thing everywhere: reading aloud every day, to someone who reads it well first and listens to every word. That is hard to give a child every evening, and it is exactly what Kiara does.

English at school, another language at home

Most children in India learn to read English while speaking another language at home. They need to hear how each line should sound, every day, not only in class.

Help that does not depend on you

You may not be sure of every word’s pronunciation, or have the time every evening. Kiara reads each line first, clearly, and never runs out of patience.

Every day, not once a week

Tuition helps, but fluent reading is built daily. Ten minutes of reading aloud each day does more than one long class a week.

How it works

Every lesson follows a reading teacher’s routine.

About ten minutes a day. Kiara reads it first, your child reads it aloud, and every mistake becomes the next thing she teaches. Fluency is built line by line, not just tested.

  1. 1

    Listen

Kiara reads the line with full expression, every word pronounced clearly.

Your child hears what fluent English reading sounds like before trying it.

  2. 2

    Read it aloud

Your child reads it aloud, and every word lights up as Kiara hears it.

Kiara notes each word that caused trouble.

  3. 3

    Fix the tricky words

Kiara breaks each missed word into its sounds and blends it back.

Your child says it with her; the word comes back in later lessons until it is mastered.

  4. 4

    Read in phrases

Kiara draws a scoop under each phrase and reads it in one smooth breath.

Your child scoops it with her: the step that turns word-by-word reading into fluent reading.

  5. 5

Read it again, and understand it

Your child reads the line again, now with phrasing and expression.

Kiara checks pace, accuracy and expression, then asks a question about the story.

What your child builds

Four parts of reading, taught in every lesson.

Each one is taught every day, and every scored read checks it against the reading fluency standards used in US schools. It helps with the reading and comprehension your child does in school English, whichever board.

Accuracy

The difference you hear

From word by word to speaking smoothly.

This is the change that daily reading aloud builds: from stopping at every word to smooth, confident English. In the app’s Listen page you hear it in your own child’s voice, from the first week to today.

Week 1

Word by word

Ev‑ery · mor‑ning, · Joy · rowed · her · lit‑tle · red · boat.

Stops at every word, sounds them out, loses the meaning.

Week 6

Smooth, like talking

Every morning, Joy rowed her little red boat.

Says it in phrases, with expression, and understands it.

An illustration of the change: every child’s pace is their own.

For parents

You see exactly how your child is reading.

The first lesson begins with a short reading assessment that places your child at the right level. After that, every scored read is marked the way a reading teacher marks it, and you can hear your child’s reading from the first week to today.

  1. A starting assessment

A short read in the first lesson measures all four parts against their class, and sets where the lessons begin.

  2. Marked like a reading record

Phrasing, self-corrections, words read correctly per minute and understanding, on every scored read.

  3. Hear the difference

Listen to their reading from the first week beside their reading today, and see the words they have mastered.

Questions

What parents ask before they begin.

Is it only for English-medium schools?

No. It is for any child learning to read in English, from LKG to Class 3, whichever school and board they are in.

We speak another language at home. Will it still help?

Yes, and that is who it is built for. Kiara reads every line first, so your child hears how the English should sound, then reads it aloud with her every day.

Will my child be marked wrong for their accent?

Kiara listens for whether each word was read. An Indian accent is not a mistake, and we keep improving how well she understands every accent.

What happens in the first lesson?

It starts with a short reading assessment: your child reads aloud, and you see words read correctly per minute, accuracy, expression and understanding against their class. Then the lessons begin at that level. The assessment and the two lessons after it are free, with no card needed.

How much time does it take?

About ten minutes a day. Short, daily practice builds fluent reading faster than long, occasional sessions.

What do we need?

A phone, tablet or computer with a microphone, and a quiet corner. It runs in the browser: there is nothing to download.

Is my child’s data safe?

There are no ads and we never sell data. Recordings and progress are stored securely in the United States, and you can delete them at any time.
